4-0 out of 5 stars Very good source for tax info.
It's been since 1996 since the last Ernst & Young tax book I purchased. The books format has changed little.Even with all the tax software out there, this is still a good source to find tax information. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Written Rules and the Real Rules in Plain English
This book starts off with a very good description of what this book is all about: John and Jane both gross $50,000 a year. John gets $40,000 after taxes, Jane gets $45,000. The difference - John works for someone and goes into work. Jane works at home and gets to deduct her home office expenses.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well written
Excellent reference book for beginning and moderately experienced investors. I am a commercial real estate broker in Connecticut and New York, and own some commercial real estate. I found the book useful ingiving me parameters on subjects I did not know, such as investing in land;it gave me some additional ideas on office properties and multi-family. Iintend to keep the book as a good reference and consult it frequently.Overall, it gives a pretty good idea on how investment real estate is dealtwith in the US. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Other sources are better for 1031 information
Perhaps the author is much more gifted as a seminar speaker than he is as a writer.I think the book could use a re-write in which the repetitive information is eliminated, and the remaining material is cleaned up, possibly following the suggestions of Strunk and White as described in Elements of Style. The 1031 exchange information comprises 22 pages of the 244 page book, and I was particularly disappointed with this section. The author went into useless detail when describing the hypothetical examples; his character, Lisa, needed to paint and carpet her old building before putting in on the market -not relevant! In the next example, Roger's exchange was given such cursory treatment that the author failed to calculate the new basis for the replacement property correctly, inserting an erroneous figure into table 6-2.If you want to put investment real estate into your IRA or 401K, then this book may have merit. However, a quick internet search of "1031 exchange" will yield many more useful explanations than this book provides.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful Reference Book with Sound Strategies
This book will open your eyes to new ways of securing and increasing your assets tax-free.There are many details and step-by-step examples and different scenarios. If you are thinking of doing a 1031 like-kind exchange - this book will take you through the process and give you concise instructions on how do it and what mistakes to avoid. If you are interested in self-directed IRA's - keep in mind that you can use your retirement plan to invest in real estate. The author walks you through using your 401(K), your IRA, your HSA, and other vehicles to increase your portfolio by buying assets, including real estate.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy read !
This book has great information and is easy to understand!

5-0 out of 5 stars Small book with a hefty price tag...
...but well worth every penny that I spent.America's Best Tax Strategies is an introduction to legitimate ways to save on taxes. As a person who is just now becoming interested in truly generating wealth, I read this book and was amazed at how easy it was to understand the concepts introduced by the author.(They should teach this stuff in high school!)I've read other tax savings books and have gotten confused. But I suggest you read this book and if you wish to follow the strategies described, go to your local expert for more details. You could save large sums of money over the course of your lifetime.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good to see this stuff explained
I just finished reading this book. It has lots of summaries but the ones I like best involved tax-free compounding, bonds, annuities, LTC insurance, 1031 exchanges, 412i plans, CRTs, Roth IRAs, owners-only 401k, private pensions, ILITs, and all the ones on real estate.I never knew there were so many tax breaks for real estate owners. The chapters on VUL and private pensions were a little tough to follow but the rest of them were laid out well. The chapters on charitable giving should be passed out to everyone. Updated chapters are free on a website so it's all up to date.

2-0 out of 5 stars Tough to NAVIGATE!!!!
I have used Turbo Tax since 2002.It is 2006 and I would have thought they would pay more attention to navigation problems. Now I am compelled to say something.Inevitably, each year it is a different problem. They need a QA team.So I tell it to import my info from Fidelity, it seems to run fine.I am pleased.I could not get it to import from another firm, HarrisDirect. So I hit Done so I can enter things manually. Then I get a password for another firm so I try to go back to the import screen but it isn't there. So I hit import from the file menu. Then it puts me in HarrisDirect and will not let me out. When I hit Done, it appears to have lost my Fidelity info.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great book for law students (or anyone) studying partnership taxation
In their preface, Professors Gunn and Repetti preview the daunting task they faced in writing and revising this student reader: how to provide a simple introduction to the extremely complex area of partnership taxation. In this reviewer's opinion, Gunn and Repetti have well achieved their goal.My opinion is based on teaching taxation at the law school level for well over ten years.During that time I have taught partnership tax as both a stand alone course and as part of a combined taxation of business entities. For law students beginning their inquiry into partnership taxation, Gunn and Repetti's reader provides useful explanations and examples to a range of issues. In my opinion the strongest part of the book are the examples, particularly the Section 704(b) special allocations and the Section 704(c) allocations. These explanations are not a substitute for a careful reading of the regulations. They do, however, provide accessible examples for students who are struggling for a handhold in these complicated areas.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction To Partnership Taxation
This book really saved my bacon in partnership tax.It provides very clear explanations of complex items with hundreds of examples. If you are new to partnership tax, this is the book to get.

1-0 out of 5 stars Miserable
So much an overview it lacks even the decency of being called a book.It is less functional than the nipples on a man's chest. The chapter on Section 704(c) is so light as to be laughable.Do not waste your money unless you need paper to start the wood in your fireplace.
