5-0 out of 5 stars If you have to read an accounting book
This book is easy to follow and cuts to the chase, no filler. It is way less expensive than any other accounting book and the man who wrote knows what he's talking about because he worked in the industry in the accounting department for over 20 years. I only know this because he is my professor. Good luck with the book and you are bound to learn a lot from it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Third edition is no better
I posted the unfavorable review of the second edition.I have recently had an opportunity to see the third edition, and find the same errors are still present.

1-0 out of 5 stars an embarrassingly slapdash and sloppy book
There were a considerable number of errors in the first edition that I pointed out to the author shortly after its publication. The second edition seems to have corrected few if any of them.Let me cite two egregious examples.3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but poor examples
If the purpose of using this book is to get a brief idea of what certain concepts are then it is a good book.Unfortunately, many people using this book are going to be those who do not have much background with theconcepts inside and they will be looking for clearer explanations of whatthe author is talking about.I think that is the book's weakness:thefact that many times I didn't feel that his definitions and explanationswere complete enough. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Non-Accounting People
This book is excellent for non-accountants.The chapters are well constructed with examples that are very easy to follow.I have worked in accounting for over 25 years and this is the best book that I have seen to help people with the basics of accounting.
4-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
This is a great intro to accounting. It will probably take a couple days to a week to read, depending on your background, but you will come away with a pretty solid understanding of accounting fundamentals.1-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
This book was maddening. I'd find myself re-reading a paragraph over and over, 5 or 6 times, attempting to translate its meaning.Sentences like "The Income Statement reports this activity on the accrual basis and the Statements of Cash Flows reports it on the cash basis" liethroughout the book. Terms like 'accrual basis' and 'dividends' aresuddenly announced, without any prior explanation.I bet the author is agreat CPA, and extraordinarily smart. But there is no way this book wastested the way it should've been: by handing it to an otherwise savvybusiness person with no accounting experience, and WATCHING them read thebook to see if it made any sense, and where they got hung up. If you're areal beginner, this won't be an easy answer to your questions. ... Read more

If you are looking for a book that contains model policies and procedures, this book is not for you. When I opened the cover, I fully expected to see full-length sample model policies and procedures. For example, your typical investment policy should be seven or more pages.Mr. McMillan's "model" policy had only a couple of useless paragraphs.I expected more for the $65 cover price. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A good Introductory Book
This book is a good starter book; much better than Oracle Materials. It gives good Introduction to Oracle Modules GL,AR and AP with the help of screen shots. (in fact, lots of screen shots help the understanding).1-0 out of 5 stars Hopeless!
This book is some kind of joke. And I'm the last one to laugh, 'cause I had to spend over 60$ on this one. It is full of screenshots and hardly any verbage. If there is any, it simply gives you the basic navigation instructions for 11i screens. Well, it did one good thing though, it inspired me to write a book on the subject that I have no knowledge on. Here's what I'm going to do. Get all the user manuals, tear them apart and throw the pages in the air. Which ever land on a table, simply collect them, bind them together, and viola...you have a book with a title that reads something like "Implementing some hi-tech applications...blah blah blah..." !

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
Though there are very few books about Oracle Applications Version 11i, this is not a good reason to buy this book. One gets the feeling that it has been assembled from a set of consultant's hand outs. It is badly written and the publisher seems to have dispensed with the services of editor and proof reader. For example, diagrams 1.3 and 1.4, meant to demonstrate the difference between single organization and multi-organization structures are in fact completely identical. This doesn't give one a great deal of confidence in the accuracy of the rest of the information in the book. The section on conversion contains the sentence "Converting legacy data can be time-consuming, expensive and complex" and then in the following paragraph "If the volume is too large, convert the legacy data via a custom software conversion program. The process can be complex and time consuming". I think we got the point the first time.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reading when starting your own business
This book is great reading when starting your own business, whatever the type of business. You will still need a tax accountant (and that is also what the author recommends) but you will have a good understanding on what records to keep and what you can write off. This makes the everday management clearer and the conversations with the tax accountant a lot easier. The book is written in fun, plain English. Some people may find the style too trivial but I actually enjoyed it because the book was easy to read that way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book - Easy Read
June does a wonderful job with communicating the concepts about the IRS tax code. This is wonderful book for the beginner as well as the seasoned entrepreneur. She explains all tax deductions in a simple way.Her Most Simple System works!!!This book does not take the place of accountant and she says that from the beginning; However her book makes you an informed client and one that will not be missing deductions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Taxes Ain't Astrophysics; Both CAN be Readily Explained!
This book contains a plethora of legitimate, audit-proof suggestions, many of which are not on the radar of most CPAs, since they are accustomed to dealing with the W2 world.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Basic Overview
The title says it all--this is a good basic overview of payroll. You will not become an expert by reading it, but what can you read that makes you an expert? This book will give you the vocabulary and the tools you need to take your first steps in payroll. After that experience is the best teacher.

3-0 out of 5 stars Valuable Payroll Resource
I think this is a good beginner-to-intermediate level book about payroll. While I doubt this book can serve as your only source to setting up a payroll system (a claim never made by the author), it can serve as a valuable guide to implementing or reviewing your current payroll internal controls, best practices and payroll policy manual. It may also help you analyze whether you are paying too much money or spending too much time on your job costing system. If you like examples, the author uses many short case studies to clarify his main points.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth it
I am an experienced trader and an avid reader of trading books. This book has nothing new to offer since the author doesn't reveal any of her secrets unless you are willing to go to her website and pay $800 to get access to some of her indicators. She spends pages and pages to expalin very simple concepts. Total waiste of money and time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book - But you must be literate and have an IQ over 100
Ms. Brown's book on technical analysis is superb. It has increased my profits already after just reading it two weeks ago.
5-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!! (if you're looking for an ineffective, shoddy, cookie cutter "system" for the masses)
This book was recommended to me by two traders in their top 10 trading books list.Knowing how successful they both are (with a combined trading experience of 65 years and immense wealth built for both of them in that time), I put a lot of faith in their recommendations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Succinct and Informative
This book is very succinct and the explanations for each accounting concepts are very easy to understand and easy to remember. The "Red Flags" after each concept are very useful in pointing out all the possible problems that may arise. While the strengths of this book is his conciseness, it does require you to have some basic accounting background. Otherwise, some of the explanations may seem confusing. Having said that, if i am reading an annual report, I would definitely want to have this book beside me. Happy reading!

4-0 out of 5 stars sophisticated maths
Neftci takes us on a mathematically sophisticated tour of financial derivatives. The treatment is on a level akin to a senior-level undergrad text on physics or engineering. Indeed, to a reader who might come from that background, there will be a lot of similarities and familiar ideas.
5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable Introduction to Serious Math, Serious Finance, and Real-World Applications
Neftci's book is easily grouped into a large number of texts that provide graduate level (considerable more rigorous than the MBA version) introductions to mathematical finance. Some are written for MBA with want to be exposed to as little math as possible without short changing the financial and valuation aspects and with considerable attention to a broad range of financial products and applications (Hull's classic comes to mind).Others are extremely implementation driven and are more a hybrid of finance and computer programming (Duffy, London, Wilmont).Still others are math books that speak above the heads of almost all practitioners and cover the finance topics poorly (or not at all).
3-0 out of 5 stars Not a useful book
The author tried to circumvent the difficulty associated with the math behind derivative pricing by explaining the sujbect in a simple way that requires the minimum knowledge of math. Unfortunately it was overdone in this respect and therefore led to non-straightforward overelaboration that made simple things even more complicated. There are both typo and non-typo errors in the book, whick could make a fairly long erratum. For example, on p.281, Eq.(28) missed the last term from the previous equation. As mentioned by other readers, the notations were used inconsistently in this book. Again on p.281, the volatility sigma was switched to the one mupltiplied by the asset price without giving a notice. The subscript t was abused for both partial derivative with respect to time t and the function depending on t. English doesn't seem to be the author's first language. One of evidences of this is on p.336, in the second paragraph after Eq.(112), where "the value in current dollars" obviously should be "the current value in dollars". In addition, the author really needs to change his sloppy writing style. Footnotes were definitely abused, many of which are unnecessary. Many equations were unnecessarily written and numbered again and again. For example, Eq.(4) on p.276 is written and numbered again on p.277, and again on p.280.
