3-0 out of 5 stars Not a good book from a student point of view, but serves the purpose
I bought this book because it is required for my Financial Accounting course. The book serves its purpose, which is to introduce the world of financial accounting to student like me who has no business background. However, the author has injected a lot of personal opinions into the text, which some are really biased. For example, the author emphasize on the mis-trust between management and investor. There is, to some extent especially after the scandals of Enron and WorldCom, but author has exaggerated it. Also, my professor, a former CFO, pointed out some formulas and pratices on the book have no value in the real world. The plus side is that the text in the book is not hard to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Speedy Delivery
I got the book three day after I ordered.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not even an answer key to the exercises
The book is easy to understand, but there should be a solutions manual, or at least an answer key to the exercises. It has been very difficult for me to "learn the mechanics" and "apply the concepts" at the end of each chapter. The pace of the course allows the teacher to solve only 2 or 3 exercises in class, and the book certainly does not make selfstudy easy. Needless to say, that you can't learn financial accounting just by reading. To makes things even worse, a study guide, which does not refer to the same exercises in the book, is out of print. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars prompt delivery
It is important to receive email from seller to confirm the transaction, which he/she did. Prompt delivery. Book arrived in good condition as stated.

1-0 out of 5 stars Far too general to be of value
Read this one a year ago and found it to be very non specific in the elements necessary to gain compliance. Now after three SOX engagements and having to deal with the intricacies of 404, this book stands as a poor introduction to the enormity of the task to follow.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Information value
I am writing a paper about SOA and read different books about it. In comparison to other books the Manager's Guide by Scott Green gives poor information about the SOA itself and talks about risks and controls most of the companies have realized centuries ago. In addition there are absurd comparisons to foreign laws, which maintain uselessness (for example a german law). I guess Scott Green has never been to Germany and doesn't know anything about Corporate Governance in Europe. I have traveled through Europe and found much better quality in leadership there and articles of most famous business magazins affirm my opinion.

2-0 out of 5 stars I paid $150 for this???
This book has potential but is overshadowed by several flaws:
1-0 out of 5 stars This is not a textbook...
This is at best a reference for professional accountants. For students, like me, it is not helpful, to say the least. To understand what the authors want to say, I had to refer to other accounting texts in the library or on the web.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good

5-0 out of 5 stars INFORMATIVE
This book covers special accounting entities that are not covered in Intermediate Accounting. This book has become helpful in the different organizations I have been employed. Although the material in this book is a lot - it is necessary. Has an excellent section for Not-for-Profit accounting.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could Have Been Better
I liked this textbook because it is nice and clean and uncluttered inside, however I think that the content could have been better.I had trouble with the first chapter having to do with business combinations in that every time a journal entry was recorded, I had no idea whether the author was referring to the common stock of the purchasing company or the common stock of the selling company. After a while, I finally figured it out, but I thought the problem could have been avoided by being more clear. There are many more examples that I have like this one.I may be being picky about the book seeing as how I took this course via independent study, so I did not have the ability to ask an instructor specific questions.I just think that the authors could have done a better job being more clear on many things. In the end, I did end up getting a A in the course!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money
I have used this book in conjunction with Gleim's CPA review books in preparation for FARE section of the CPA exam.Excellent supplement especially if you look for technical aspects of purchase/poolingaccounting.The chapters on consolidation are truly outstanding.Verythorough and comprehensive. The only drawback as with many othertextbooks is the lack of answer keys at the end of the chapter.Overall, Iwould definitely recommend getting it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is my bible
This book says it all very concisely, no fluff.I've written three business plans with it.Read a chapter in the book, write a chapter of the plan. The examples are very good.I just hit $1MM in sales on my third try - I give this book a lot of credit for helping me get organized.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good explanations, but ....
This book explains the business plan in sufficient detail to let you understand what is needed to create a business plan. If you're not proficient already in writing business plans, you'll need a Ernst &Young consultant to have any use of the book. Of course, then you'llprobably get the book for free ater having paid their fees. In short, niceto read but absolutely not the first bookon the subject to recommend toanyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well delivered information neatly and compactly written
I think this book does of a great job of succintly outlining the dos and donts of business plan writing. I also think that the example plan is most instructional. The only thing it could do better is to put in a samplebusiness plan that is based on a services model, rather than a productsmodel. It also could touch on the Internet as a special informationresource. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A better text is available
As background for dissusion of the Beams "Advanced Accounting" text, 9th ed.: I took advanced accounting at one university last summer (which covered much of advanced accounting, but no accounting for not-for-profit organizations).Due to scheduling availability, I am taking advanced accounting at a different university this summer...this class WILL cover not-for-profit accounting issues, which is why I am taking it.We used the Hoyle, Schaefer, Doupnik "Advanced Accounting" 7th ed. text last year, and even though the concepts were difficult, the examples assisted greatly, and the text was clear, organized and without noticeable errors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Credit scoring is of course of enormous importance not only to lending institutions but also to individual borrowers who benefit from high credit scores when obtaining personal, commercial, and mortgage loans. The details of how the credit scores are calculated though are frequently proprietary, so it is imperative to understand the generalities behind credit scoring if one is to make reasonable judgments on its use and its risks. This short book gives an elementary introduction to credit scoring and is useful to those readers who need to understand it without going into complicated mathematics. Readers who require a more in-depth treatment will have to look at other books on the subject.

2-0 out of 5 stars good and bad
There is no doubt that the author is extremely knowledgeable about financial statements, but he struggles to write a clear introduction for newcomers. I finished the book with a muddy, incomplete understanding of financial statements.
5-0 out of 5 stars excellent refresher
I had a basic understanding of financial statements from accounting courses in college, but had forgotten most of it in the past 7 years. This book was a great refresher and would probably also be a good first book for someone with zero - very limited knowledge.
