Great Value
I'm not a financial analyst but I'm interested in analysing companies for my own investments. I found the book easy to read. It's a big eye-opener for someone who was not aware of all the accounting gimmicks that aggressive companies can play. I'm certainly a better investor now.
Definately for the Practitioner
I needed this book for a Financial Statement Analysis class. It is a decent book, full of examples, so that makes it very interesting; however, the themes are very repetitive. It not an exciting book by any stretch, but it does have some usefulness.

Adobe reader format is a bad choice

Good Intro to Financial Accounting but many Drawbacks
The book "Financial Accounting" gives a very good overview of the technique of financial accounting, but falls short on the analysis port.
Worst textbook I've used..
This textbook is really bad. Not very informative at all comparing it to other financial accounting books. It gives very broad descriptions and definitions that make it feel more like a grammar school book than a college-level. I was very unhappy that my professor assigned my class with this book. If you do not need to buy it, please don't, it's horrible.

A worthless text book...
I purchased this book because its the prescribe text book. The treatment of the content is average. What annoys me is there are little or no answers to the exercises. I later learnt that Prentice Hall supplies the solution manual to the instructors, but they dont make it available to students....huh??Read more

Most confusing, wordy textbook I have ever used
I am in a graduate program and this is the first time in 16 years of education that I have ever come across such a poorly written textbook! As a previous rater stated, "The presentation of the content assumes that the reader has some knowledge of this content area and at times leaves him/her confused as to what was discussed, making it difficult to understand. Examples that are used are often incomplete and do not provide a complete picture of how statements are generated." I second his sentiment, "Too bad I could not give it zero stars." I would love to contact these individuals and their publisher and recommend they never write again. I need a book I can use again and again when my class is finished, not one I would sooner burn.

Best book on the market
I'm a professor at a large state university.On the rare occasions when I teach this course, I always order the Edmonds book.

This text is abysmal. It is riddled with errors and omissions, gives incomplete examples, and presents information unsequentially. It relies too much and for too long on thehorizontal model without practical applicatoin to journals and statements. If your college uses this text (as Medaille College and Finger Lakes Community College currently do) run away!
A good book with the right instructor
I've read the reviews stating that this is a confusing book.I disagree completely.Although the author does not immediately delve into traditional T-accounts, the introduction of the "horizontal model" serves as a good foundation for building the awareness of the accounting equation that should be second nature BEFORE tackling T-accounts.The text's preface states: "A horizontal financial statements model replaces the accounting equation as the predominant teaching platform.The model enables students to VISUALIZE THE SIMULTANEOUS EFFECTS OF A SINGLE BUSINESS EVENT on the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows."I felt as though this methodology was very effective for my learning style.Recording transactions in T-accounts came almost as second nature after mastering the horizontal model.Read more

Outstanding Accounting Book
This is an outstanding book for studying accounting.It gives an excellent survey of basic financial and managerial accounting.Students will find a treasured spot with the online resources.The lessons presented in PowerPoint are great learning tools to reinforce each chapter in the book.Using the templates to complete homework assignments is just wonderful.I recommend students don't just pass over these resources without even trying them.They will make your studies much easier.

Good Introduction to Accounting
I started out with practically no knowledge of accounting - this book did a very impressive job of introducing me to the various concepts. I can now read and understand the financial statements put out by the companies. Our professor used this book very extensively - he would talk about a topic and then point out the page numbers where the authors had written about that topic. Read more

Excellent introductory book on Analysis for FM
It is one of the best books I have ever used for course reference. One of the reviewers (on the back cover) taught me the Corporate Finance course at HBS with this book as the reference text and it was a great learning experience. I also find this book as a great reference material for my CFA exam. Can't wait to get my hands on the next edition.

an excellent introductory text
Unlike most textbooks the book by Higgins can actually be an engaging read. It doesn't get into too many technical details on any of the subject matters covered, but includes some interesting sections that I haven't found in other general (and much heavier) financial management books. For instance, I liked the appendix on the venture capital method of valuation and the explanation on how venture capitalists arrive at a required percentage ownership given multiple rounds of financing.

Great study guide
After I earned an MS in math and Ph.D. in physics, I ended up using my technical skills pricing otpions in a trading floor selling weather derivatives.I wondered if I was missing something since I had no background in basic investment science.I deeply enjoyed reading the book.I found the examples to be helpful, and the homework problems (with solutions) to be accessible.My biggest complaints is that many of the detailed solutions were not proof read for errors, and there are quite a few "arithmetical" ERRORS.Today, teaching a lot of business mathematics classes, this is one of the Schaum's outline series I recommend as a study guide and textbook supplement, especially for intermediate courses in economic theory.
Good Study Material but Some Sloppy Errors
I read this book to supplement my CFA curriculum studies.Compared to other Schaum's books, Financial Management by Shim and Siegel merits a rating of between 3 and 3 1/2.

I don't know what that reader below is saying.?? This book was very helpful to me when I used this for a finance class. It's great because it has quizzes/exams, definitions, key terms, a useful index, many many sample problems, and formulas in bold. When you are a busy person and are using this as a refresher, or in conjunction w/ a textbook, it's very helpful to have this paperback workbook to go through for a quick reference.

Not as bad as a root canal
I'm not a finance person nor do I plan to be one in the future.Will working in sales for the past 10 years I have become more aware of what I don't know and finance is surely one of those areas.This book covers the basic's of the financial world without putting you into a comma.The homework at the end of each chapter gets to be a bit of a pain since I was looking for the "concept" not trying to become an accountant.The best part of the book is it starts basic and builds off of that throughout the book which helped me understand some of the more complex financial terms.Good book for someone trying to get up to speed quick.

Excellent!
Anything below 5 stars for this book is not fair. This is an excellent reference material, not just a one time read. My regret is that I didn't read it right after it came out.
