5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough treatment of financial statement analysis
Stickney's book is not for beginners to the subject, as I believe many of those who have rated the book poorly have found. For those with some background in basic accounting however, it is indispensable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for FSA
I'm a rising second year MBA student at one of the prominent business schools. I used this book as one of the text books for FSA class after basic accounting and footnote accounting classes. This book is very useful in bringing the picture together to analyze and model a company. It is very practical. I have used it as a reference throughout my internship at an investment management firm.
4-0 out of 5 stars Don't judge this book by its cover! Not for beginners, but definitely for the future accounting professionals
This is a very highly detailed accounting book.It is definitely not designed for novices. If you already have a good beginning foundation in accounting, this book is an excellent sequel to help you better fine tune and master those accounting skills! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It is what it is
The best attribute of this book is that it doesn't mislead the book buyer by presenting a big and juicy carrot on its title, only to fail the reader expectations throughout the book. In a nutshell, if you want to know what does mean covertible arbitrage, market neutral, distressed securities, merger arbitrage and so so, you'll get a detailed answer in there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Balance sheet analysis from a master at his trade
For the most part I found Graham's book to be very useful. It is a quick and informative read with some insights on how to make heads or tails of what you are looking at with an annual or quarterly report.Although there was some disappointment with the Income Statement explanation (which, honestly isn't terribly hard to understand), as well as his focus on railroad and utility companies (with some focus on bonds and preferred stocks, which I have no interest in), I found this to be very helpful.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the beginning analyst
Very easy to read.Extremely informative concluding chapter where a set of financial statements are analyzed. The sole downside is that some of the jargon and the accounting principles have changed, so updating will be necessary. But this is the place to cut your teeth.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quick Accounting Review
This short book is a quick and straightforward review of balance sheet and income statement line items. The cash flow statement is not directly addressed. Each chapter is about two to three pages. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible book

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential background information.
The book provides essential backgroud information. The mathematical backgroud could go a litle further and this is also true for how the models could be used in dayly live but then it should all fit in one book. Good work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely Helps
Ever wonder what those people on CNBC or Bloomberg are talking about? Here's the answer, in a concise format, from A to Z!

2-0 out of 5 stars Shallow reference
The book provides limited descriptions of most techncial indicators used in trading. There is very little about how they might be used or how they are calculated - here is a typical comment:"The Accumulation Swing Index is a cumulative total of the Swing Index. The Swing Index and the Accumulation Swing Index require opening prices.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT book for learning excel and Finance
I really enjoyed using this book. The author did a great job of explaining the topics...well wortht the time and price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not disappointed at all
Great book, step by step approach, but still requires basic knowledge of Excel's core functions. The CD provided is definitely a plus.

2-0 out of 5 stars No access to Excel files for eBook version

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good - Highly Recomended
Buy this book and read it. I was looking for a professional, yet easy to read book and this is it. This book will improve your self confidence in approaching financial reports and understanding the numbers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Investor Beware
This book shows how GAAP rules can be twisted to mask poor financial performance and boost the price of stock.Among the tricks exposed:shifting revenue from one period to another; taking losses at convenient times; and manipulating depreciation schedules to minimize expenses. Each trick is illustrated with real-world examples drawn from SEC cases and civil litigation.I enjoyed the book very much:it's short, readable, and wise.I did, however, wonder about what audience the author was trying to reach.Accountants and financial analysts will already know these tricks and regard the exposition as superficial; on the other hand, readers with no business background at all might be daunted by the accounting technicalities.Probably the ideal reader is a hobbyist-investor who reads business books for pleasure. For such readers, "Financial Shenanigans" offers pleasures galore.

4-0 out of 5 stars Know more about tricky accounting technique
For those who have taken ACCT 101, there is a good book to learn accounting tricky in detail. This book could be better if changed its text book style, although this makes readers easier to read, a bit boring. The example are not very good as most of the analyzed companies are not well known.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shopper Satisfaction
Actually, the supplier no longer had the book available. But the supplier contacted me immediately and my account was credited almost as quickly as the money went out.So I am still a happy shopper.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorest text ever written
If your school uses this book, not only don't take this class, drop out of the school. If I could rate this with negative numbers I would. This is the worst textbook ever devised by man OR woman. If you are already a CPA looking for a review, it might be worth something, otherwise it teaches nothing. It presents examples without first explaining things then explains things using examples that have no bearing on what is being taught.
2-0 out of 5 stars I can't wait to re-sell this book
This book is not for beginners! The exercises in the textbook are difficult to follow because they don't provide much examples in the chapters. Also, important topics are briefly discussed. However, I enjoyed reading the case studies. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking book
Mulford and Comiskey have delivered a tour de force for the financial and accounting community in this book. Whether you are a financial analyst, corporate accountant, auditor or an executive with a small or large firm, you absolutely will benefit from this book. It is one of the most important books of the last 20 years, and in my opinion, it is the finest book ever written on the concepts and methods of deciphering Operating Cash Flow, it's relationship to earnings, calibrating and measuring free cash flow, as well as the mechanics and drivers (and sometimes deliberate manipulation by unscrupulous management) within the business system that can lead to distortions in the Cash Flow statement.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best book on the subject.
Messers Mulford and Comiskey have released a primer on what has lately become a messy subject. Unlike other books with a focus on cash--Hackel's book, for example--this one delves a little bit deeper into the subject of financial misreporting. The reader is given a synopsis of how companies say that their cash is operating, whereas it ought to be put under financing or investing cash flow. There is a multitude of similarly constructed arguments. The examples are lucid, apropos, and contemporary. The book also has a deterministic model for calculating CFFO. Read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mulford's methodology shows why Cash is King
Over several years of using and preparing the GAAP-based cash flow statement in analysis, I have found it isn't that useful in enabling me to drill down to understand where a company's real operating cash flow comes from.Mulford's methodology does an excellent job focusing on interim period cash flow information to enable the reader to better spot positive and negative trends in an operating company's performance.I found Creative Cash Flow Reporting to be a most useful treatise on what's wrong with the cash flow statement and how to work around its problems. The section on analysis, the cash flow drivers, and the growth cash-flow profile were particularly helpful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Text Book for Beginners
This is an excellent text book for beginners. During my freshmen year, our professor wisely chose this book as our main text book. The book is concise and explains everything in a clear and understandable manner. I have often wondered whether or not Weygandt, Kieso and Kimmel have hired students with no accounting knowledge to help review the book, because I am certain that even 10 year olds can understand the material. Overall, I highly recommend this book for beginners and for people who just want to know what accounting is all about. ... Read more
