As good as "financial accounting" is ever gonna get.
This good is very helpful, both graphically and technically.I does a great job of explaining everything in plain english and reenforcing those lesson with real world experience.The one complain i have is that there is no answer key so that I can verify my answer (after all, one slip up can effect every following financial document).

Total Rip-off
The book is good, but $130 dollars!!!!You still need to buy a 3 ring binder to put the sheets in, it's not even a paperback, meaning the publisher didn't even spend the money for binding. Who owns this company, Shell?Exxon?Enron?!?There are other accounting books for a fraction of the cost, but the organized crime (my community college) requires this particular one.I wonder what their incentive might be???

Beginners manual
If you are new to accounting then this book should definitely be on your list.Explaining step by step how to record basic journal entries and how these entries relate to the various financial statements (Income Statement, Cash-Flows...), in a clear and well organized fashion.The only reason I am unwilling to rate this book five stars is due to the price; as most people will be using this book as an introduction to financial accounting it does seem a little expensive.It is also worth noting the problems and examples used throughout the book are of excellent quality, especially the financial statements provided in appendix A and B.If you have previous experience within the accounting field I would probably recommend a book at a higher level but beginners could do no better. ... Just what I needed
If you are taking Accounting 1 and 2 only buy this book. Both books are in this one. No one told me to buy this book instead of the Acct. 1 book. So I bought 2 different books which was more money. I had just went by the ISBN # on Accounting 1.

Just what I needed
This book is a quick read and addressed the outages in my understanding of how to value companies and structure rounds of funding.

Check Out Author's DVD as Well - Negotiating Term Sheets
This was a really great resource - but even better is author's new product called Negotiating Term Sheets and Valuations in Venture Capital Deals (ISBN 1597010987).It is a 100 minute DVD that has a lot of different material in it that is critical for term sheets and valuations.It also covers specific negotiation strategies and roles and motivations for each key deal participant - which is not covered in the book.

A Must for Term Sheet Analysis and Composition
A great book for understanding term sheets and a much needed book for entrepreneurs, who really do not have many good books to choose from.

Don't buy from college books direct
After ordering, I received a refund the next day.What is up with that?

Dishonesty
This product was purposely advertised under edition 11 while it is in actuality a 7th edition.Not only that, it is not even cost accounting but Financial accounting.To make matters worst the seller was not helpful at all and blamed everything on Amazon.I am doing my second masters and therefore not new to Amazon; so blaming such an institution is no justification for an inherent dishonesty.There was no CD package as well and therefore the only thing that matched to the discreption was the authors.Proof of this persons dishonesty is that on Amazon you can buy the same book he sold me at $2 while he sold (cheated) the book to me for $20 something.I strongly advise no one to buy from this person. If there was any lower rating than 1 I would definetly have given him that as rating "1" is too high of a scale for this persona.

Great source for managers
This is one of those few books that is simple yet not simplistic. Book is written for corporate managers whose job responsibility is outside the decipline of finance, however who can benefit from knowing the finance at the fundamental level. Book does not go into "mechanics" of finance and focuses more on the "essense" of finance. Written with the simplicity of small business yet with questions to be asked in large corporations. I would strongly recommend this book to all my managers.

A Great Place to Start
I've recently begun investing in stocks, but I knew nothing about financial reports or accounting.Now I do. Not only did I learn a lot from Ittelson, I want to know more!I liked this book because it was easy to get through (the writing is straightforward and the font is BIG), it utilizes a building-block method of learning, and employs a fictional company from page one to illustrate all the concepts of financial reports.If you're a beginner, this is a great place to start.

Simply The Best!
A solid foundation is critical to understanding concepts. So you'd think most books would spend a lot of time ensuring and clarifying the basics, right? Wrong! Simply not true! Most of the accounting/finance books just don't get into clarifying the very basics - the confusing array of terms used, how they fit together, what they actually mean in a realworld setting, etc.
Good Choice for Beginners
Although the first half of the book seems naive even for begginers, second half reveals to be much better as author explains dinamics of connections among financial statements through a very interesting sequence of day-to-day operations of a simplified applesauce factory. Very good resource
I'm CEO of a medium size business and wanted a resource to teach me accounting. This is a great book, with plenty of assignments which fully reinforce the lessons. The only disappointment is that there are no solutions and the publisher only gives them to you if you are a registered teacher.

Used it in place of my assigned financial accounting book...
NYU's Stern School Of Business uses this book and its a well-crafted introduction to financial accounting. While taking accounting at the other New York business school, I deep sixed my assigned accounting book and instead borrowed my wife's. It coverage of topics and pedagogical flow are quite approachable and manageable. Struggling friends begain to purchase it for themselves. An excellent book. An interesting book as well. "Slogging" Defined
OK folks, here's a contrarian review of this book.Consider it an opinion which "balances" other reviews presented in this book review section.Here goes.
Very good book, but not for beginners
The book requires solid knowledge of accounting so not recommended for beginners. Do not expect long explanations and illustrations. They just give some basic examples and generally they don't provide journal entries. It is not an accounting book! Don't be scared if first time there are parts that are not clear as the chapters are interlinked. Give it another chance.

Pretty good book
My accounting professor recommended this book ... found it to be very useful to get a handle on many accounting principles I was struggling with in my MBA course. What I like the best about the book is that it allows you to et as detailed as you want to get - it all depends on your interest. For instance I just wanted to get familiar with some issues like accounting for pension and it has very well explained the basics of pension accounting and on other hand where I wanted to get into details of handling of stock options it had all the details I was looking for. ... This book sucks if you're learning for the first time.
This book is TERRIBLE.I am an engineer in an MBA program.The book is supposedly for non accountants, but I don't see how it's possible to understand this book if you're not an accountant.If you're unfortunate and have to use this book, find a good book that you can actually read to supplement the subject.

Extremely useful for financial accounting
Financial accounting is a difficult subject but this book helps break down the concepts in a way that is easier to understand.

not a good book for beginners
the whole structure of the book is ot comprehensible. it gives out 3 financial statements at the first 3 chapters, without letting the readers to have time digest the concepts. after you are confused enough, the book will then introduce concepts of each items listed in the statements, and have you look back at the first three chapters.
What do you expect from an accounting book???
Having never taken an accounting class before, I didn't know what to expect. This was the text assigned for my first accounting class in an MBA program at an elite Northeastern Business School. It is a pretty straight-forward read. Let's face it, accounting is a subject full of jargon that you MUST learn. It is just one of those subjects.

good case study
I found the chapters are not very in detail. I was using it as the textbook and the lecture notes are way better. I read the book at the begginning but stopped in the middle as it doesn't really help. However, the end of chapter case studies are pretty good.

Useful if cumbersome
This review applies to the edition WITH CASES.This isn't recommended for anyone who is just starting out with choosing investments.Beginners might be better off with a more general overview of financial statement analysis (FSA) like Higgins' "Analysis of Financial Statements" or Fraser and Omriston's "Understanding Financial Statements". Not a bad book, but has a few problems
My main problem with this book is that the text looks like a magazine, so often it's difficult to discern what is important versus what is trivial.In addition, in the first chapter the authors present all of the financial statements, which overwhelms some students.Finally, some topics are used before they are intoduced in detail.
A Fabulous book!!!
I am currently taking an Accounting class with this book and I think it is great. It is easy to understand. It is very straight and to the point. It gives you plenty of real world examples from real companies and their financial reports (which makes it a lot more interesting than other Accounting books...) Also Amazon.com is great and I have always had great experiences with Amazon.com.
