Simply the Best and Most Honest View of Annuities
Highly Recommended, but even that doesn't do appropriate justice to this work. John Olsen and Michael Kitces, both of whom are nationally known and held in the highest regard by many top attorneys and planners, combine and conspire to directly address the tough issues regarding annuities, i.e., tax considerations, commissions and their effect on performance, complex contracts, pressure by insurance companies to sell in unsuitable situations, and more optional provisions than the mind can grasp. This book takes on these issues and sorts out the reality from the hype by honestly and objectively examining the good and bad of all major types of commercial annuities, from fixed to variable to equity indexed, as well as trust structures involving annuities and the tough section 72(s) issues. The book also includes such useful things as the actuarial tables for taxing annuities, exclusion ratio calculations, and the most pertinent Internal Revenue Code Sections. This book does a very good job of translating the dry language of the internal revenue code into plain English.A must read for tax accountants in the corporate tax field.In addition, related court cases and revenue rulings and revenue procedures are clearly identified by its footnotes.When this book is cross-referenced with the actual code sections, the mystiques of tax are dispelled.I saw the light! ... Numerous inaccuracies detract from good discussion
As a state and local tax professional, I purchased a copy of this text to use for "in-house" training at my company.Seeing that the "Second Edition" was published this year (2004), I assumed it would be a relatively accurate text.However, in reviewing Chapter 3 ("Corporate Income/Franchise Taxes" - my area of specialization), I was dismayed to find that most of the information has not been updated for current law.As examples, the table on apportionment factor weighting hasn't been updated for changes since 1999, and the discussion of state differences in depreciation fails to address the dramatic changes that have occurred due to 2002 and 2003 federal legislation. it's an advertisement for his company
This book was scanty on content. Much of it was promoting his agent services in Nevada. I feel I have to get another book to be able to do this.

Incomplete:One Big Advertisement For Author's Services
I really did expect a complete incorporation kit with all the things I'm used to getting like fill-in-the-blanks Articles of Incorporation, Stock Certificates, and a Stock Transfer Ledger.The real complete"corporate kit" is for sale on the last page of the book foranother $79.The step-by-step guide repeatedly guides readers to theservices of Nevada Corporate Headquarters, Inc., owned by Cort W. Christie. The book also neglects to say anything about the complications involved ingetting your profits into your pocket without running into trouble orpaying the same taxes you would normally have to pay in you home state.Iwas sorely disappointed.
