5-0 out of 5 stars couldn't live without it
I happened upon this book at a friend's house. After taking a course on bookkeeping in order to get ahead in my job, I still found myself unable to fully grasp the complexity of the topic. Also, this course wasn't the most interesting topic, which might have been the real problem. If you seriously need to understand bookkeeping, forget about the course, and read this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Behind the Scenes of the best!
I thought I knew most of the facts about Dr. Phil and Oprah, but I was wrong until I settled down in front of my space heater with this book, which details their connection all the way back to their first awkward encounters and subsequent fireworks (Dr. Phil and Oprah). In addition to pointing out that "Oprah" is "Harpo" spelled backwards (we learn that her parents were huge Marx Brothers fans, and that her little brother "Ohcuorg" felt the naming tradition was a stigmata), we learn about how their meeting took place at a Beef trial, and the rest is history, but is spelled out in the book in pleasurable detail and with aplomb. Although they have never been married, the rumor that Dr. Phil is actually Steadman is quickly "put to rest" by this book (and in addition, they both have mustaches but Dr. Phil's predates Steadman's by six years!). I really liked being taken behind the scenes and touring the backsides of these great storied individuals. Hurrah for this book! I heartily recommend it for your reading pleasures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Covers all the basics of bookkeeping
What are the basics of 'double-entry accounting', and how can it be done? This totally updated 6th edition of a popular study covers all the basics of bookkeeping, from handling petty cash and using spreadsheets to account for VAT taxes, a British tax system. While there are a few principles such as VAT which are UK-specific, plenty of solid and easily-transferred basics will easy cross country lines to appeal to a world-wide audience. Mastering Book-Keeping is highly recommended, especially for those relatively new to the complexities of corporate bookkeeping in multinational companies. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars know where to stand
This notebook is awesome, it shows you exactly where you stand when it comes you your bills. You can follow your spending patterns and know when your payments are due monthly, avoid any chance of being late on your payments due to non-receipt of statemnts..this book has a column to write the due date, min payment due, amount paid, date paid, check # used, previous and new balance and total amount paid..since I pay my bills online and don't use a check # I use that column to total the amount of finance charges each month..this is a really good notebook and I strongly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great source of Extra Income
I checked this book out of the library hoping to gain and idea or two on making some extra income. Boy was I surprised to gain an overabundance of ideas. This book includes many ideas that you can start with little or no money and little or no experience and training. This is exactly what most people are looking for. With the ideas gained from this book, I'm well on my way to earning some extra cash.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT INFORMATIVE BOOK........
Great book with over 100 ideas on earning extra income. This book offers great information on marketing, advertising, crafts, publishing, and many useful ideas for stay home moms. this book is well written and easy to follow. I graduated from High school last year. I go to college part-time, have my own place, a full-time job and thanks to the knowledge I gained from this book, I now have a part-time job, putting in my own hours whenever I can. This may not be the best book ever written, but it sure helped me out.... I recommend it highly, especially for young women just coming in to the work field.....

1-0 out of 5 stars Not impressed
I really think this book would have been good if we were in the 1930-1950. We are in the year 2000 and all the extra income opportunities stated inthis book are outdated. The author should keep up with the century we arein. You can't expect women in the year 2000 to raise animals for aleaving, nor cook for extra money, don't we do this already. What everhappened to computers? This book was offensive to me as a women!!!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Same old stuff
This book is no different than any other finance book I have read.Except this one is so poorly written and offers no constructive suggestions. The language is difficult for the beginner to understand, despite the author's claims that the book is suitable for beginners.I trashed mine after the first few chapters.I can't believe there are people who would publish this kind of ....It is shocking.

3-0 out of 5 stars Waxing Philosophical
Making Change advocates that women change the way that they think about money so that they take an active role in their financial life, starting at the earliest stage possible. The book is divided into life phases from dating to death and offers a "user friendly" approach. Chapterscontain quizzes, mock interviews, and personal stories to keep the reader'sinterest. Most of all it offers a philosophy that women should follow inorder to gain financial freedom.Godfrey calls her philosophy "Designit, do it."In other words, make a plan ahead of time for your kids'college tuition, your retirement, etc.Don't wait for your spouse or thefairy godmother to take care of it is Godfrey's point. The book lacksserious financial facts such as how you might short a stock and when to doit or the differences between adjustable rate mortgages and fixed ratemortgages. So don't turn to this for serious financial enlightenment butdo turn to it for an inspirational non-threatening approach on how to getyour financial house in order.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has been the most helpful book I have ever read!
If you are in a situation in your life when you feel that it is time for you to gain control over your finances, this is the book for you. After reading this book I am no secure enough with my knowlegde to open up my ownaccount and organize the bills. Before reading this book I felt that myhusband will always do the 'money stuff' for me, I never really thoughttwice about how important it is to understand your own finances.By thisbook, read it cover to cover. Also, it was pretty funny at times, MakingChange is well written and humorous.Buy the book!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very thorough book.
We require advisors and brokers to read this in our firm. It's not totally inclusive, but NO book is. But for the average person, there is more here than they even need. This is the book for professionals to brush up on and know all facts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, needs more instruction
I happen to have Victor Hallman's class at the Wharton School, and we use this as the text.As a result, I have had the unfortunate task of committing to memory large portions of this book.In general, I find the book to be thoroughly comprehensive in describing financial products and planning techniques.Hallman and Rosenbloom are conservative, and they incorporate a sophisticated knowledge of both tax law and financial theory. This volume, however, is somewhat outdated in that it does not include the 2001 tax relief act that phases out the estate tax and lowers the highest federal income tax bracket. In addition, I think that the book lacks instruction.Specifically, there should be more hypothetical scenarios of individuals in certain financial scenarios and suggestions about what tools they can use to improve their situation. That would make it more accessible to the average reader instead of simply the professional planner.

5-0 out of 5 stars When can we expect the sixth edition?
In the preface to the fifth edition (1993) references are made to the tax law changes of the late 80's up to and inclusive of 1990. Since we are into 1999 and there have been interim tax law changes is a sixth edition in theworks? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good needs tear out forms
The book is pretty good, it really helps the small business owner and is oriented towards services. It's short but to the point. It got me moving on my recordkeeping, bank statements are not enough. Now I can tacklequickbooks knowing a little more about the basics, most books are tootechnical. The author does need to make the forms tear out in the back, after I took them out, there is no way to keep them, tear out forms with away to three hole punch them would be great.5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" for any small business
"Organize Your Books In 6 Easy Steps" is a must have for any small business owner. The "easy-to-read" writting style of Donna Murphy is an excellent addition to the concise and relevant content of thisbook. If you own a small business or are thinking of staring one, you MUSTget this one!

4-0 out of 5 stars A genuinely practical primer for sole proprietorships.
Donna Murphy has succeeded where many have failed. She provides a genuinely practical primer that sole proprietors can use to keep their books in order--and avoid that dreaded letter from the IRS. With a generous sampling of forms, a sensible six-step approach to the material, and a wise and witty writing style, Murphy has produced a winner that is sure to go into many subsequent editions. ...
