Fair book for the money
This book only has a few business forms.Considering its low cost, it's not a bad book overall.I thought it would teach me how to do bookkeeping, but it basically just gives you a few business forms.I would not pay more than five dollars for it.The word "simplified" in the book's title is really what the book is all about entirely.

Only a workbook
This document (it is not a book) contains 4 pages of bullet point information regarding how to track receipts and disbursements, but in no other way provides information as to the hows and whys of bookkeeping. Small business resource

Out of date
The bookkeeping steps described are still sound.But it's so old that there is no mention of the tremendous help computer software can be.The examples used feel old-fashioned.And the prose itself feels not just out of the '70s, but even the '50s. This book is showing it's age!
This book was written in 1976 and does not appear to have been updated for the 1992 publication.It even states "Mechanical Equipment. In almost any type of business, an adding machine is needed" A contractor from Minnesota
Although this book did have some good information to share on the basics i.e. good record keeping practices and procedures. It was geared towards the retail indistry only. I found the book to be quite dated. (early 90s).It took the cash register and paper approach to record keeping as opposedto any mention of computerized systems and methods available. I'm alsosuspisious of the Federal tax record keeping requirements etc. As thisinformation provided could also be out of date. ... Read more

A Great Foundation for Young Children
My husband and I were looking for a book to help our children, ages 8 and 5, understand the concept and value of money.We had started an allowance but felt like they were more eager to spend the money than to care what it was spent on and when it was lost they didn't really care.We have since stopped the allowance and decided to go through this book first.
I wish I had read the description a little closer...
This book has very little to do with money a very much to do with sending money to the church. I bought a copy for each of my girls, 16 and 18 years old, each of them very spiritual, and they were both very turned off by the "preachy" context of the book. In fact, the 18-year-old told me she felt like she learned nothing about money, and as for the spiritual side, there are better books for that as well. She was especially turned off by one passage that recommended one way of making more money is giving more to the church.

Solid in the psychological issues surrounding money
We bought this book to help teach our 7 year old how to manage her money.Where the book met expectations were the areas of values and healthy ways to think of money : Money isn't ours.We're stewards of God's money and therefore, we should spend it wisely, etc. Read more

very useful
I found this book very useful. It is easy to understand. There is not a lot written for small business people that has so much good information that is so easy to make sense of. I used the book to change our accounting structure and it all makes much more sense to me now than it did.

Getting rid of the paper!
I used QuickBooks at my previous job but it was all setup for me. That owner retired so I got a new, better paying job, but I thought I might be in over my head. The owner was disorganized with papers everywhere. He didn't seem ready to want to get rid of all that paper.

Great Overview
If you were studying accounting or bookkeeping on your own or in a college setting, and you made a small booklet of everything you highlighted or underlined in your textbook that you expected to see on the final exam you would re-create this book.I wish I had it when I was preparing for my accounting exams.This book won't make you an accountant, only experience and a lot of hard work will do that, but I'll bet you keep a copy of "Schaum's Easy Outline Bookkeeping and Accounting by Joel J. Lerner" in your desk for the first year on the job.

Difficult to understand
This book is definitely not for novice bookkeepers.You really need to know a lot about the subject in order to understand the material in this book.I personally felt as though it was a waste of money, and it has not helped me enter the bookkeeping field as I had hoped it would have.I had bookkeeping in college 30 years ago and thought this book would refresh my memory, but it did not. ... Bookkeeping Made Simple
I am an accountant and an instructor for our local college and adult education consortium.I use this book in my Basic Bookkeeping course.I find it to be very good in teaching the students the basics of bookkeeping and helping them understand what is happening in the background of an integrated accounting software program such as Accpac's Simply Accounting!I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to learn the basics of bookkeeping.

Bonds finally make sense! Thank you!
I had always read about the importance of including bonds in your portfolio--in both bear and bull markets--but I could never get a handle on all the different types available. Thank goodness for this book. I now know the difference between muni bonds and U.S. savings bonds, and why bond funds may not be the best route to diversification. Great guide to bonds - and to help balance my portfolio
Stocks, stocks, stocks, IPOs, stocks. Like too many people, I paid too much attention to equities and too little to other investments. I read over and over about creating a balanced portfolio and did - but only to a degree and without paying much attention to the less glamorous parts of my investments.
