Use on SOX reviews
Affordable book compared to other IT books, it is well written that provides a comprehensive framework for IT auditing. I especially liked the many Figures/Exhibits that listed Key Risks for the many subjects covered. Working in the SOX compliance area, these risks were a useful summary/checklist to understand what risks should be assessed and managed for SOX compliance. It would not be a detailed book for implementation for an CIO and staff to follow, but for an audit assessment of an IT department, I found useful.
It mainly about Security Risk issues
As an example, in the chapter on IT Risks and Controls, the only discussion of data integrity is buried in a few lines in a section entitled Security Risk.The examples in the book are mainly about Security issues.Take the subject of data integrity on file transfers.I believe the only mention of the subject outside of Security concerns is a Figure on the OSI Model (Transport layer alone won't detect if a mixture of old and new files are erroneously transfered to downstreams).There is no mention of detection/recovery of skipping/double-posting transactions, error thresholds, data base consistency on no-posts, restart/retry logic, checking for count and amount mismatches, balancing using checkpoints, etc.An auditor I believe should be aware of these types of issues concerning data integrity even in a core concept book.

Apt title - excellent intro
Although this is a college-level text, it can be effectively used by newly minted IT auditors to quickly learn the key knowledge and skill factors needed to function within their roles.Read more

A Must-Read for Fans of Crackpot Literature
The author seems incapable of putting two sentences together without saying at least one ridiculous thing. Maybe Wattles really did get rich selling baloney like this. Extensive
This book is extensive but confusing. I had to flip back to different chapters to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Vague, wordy, confusing, and in need of examples
I found that if you want to learn the language of auditing, have another reference handy.Often, the discourse goes on and on and on and could really be distilled down into a sentence or two that had a firm and grounded presentation.There were very few examples so it was difficult at best to try to understand the often high-level conceptual frameworks that were constantly being presented.I also noted quite a few editing errors that probably arose from cut-and-pastes that were not carefully reviewed.Also, figures and diagrams were reused and were not carefully reviewed either as information was present that didn't apply to the new scenario.

Very Confusing
I believe you can find a better auditing textbook in the market. I took an auditing class with one of the authur in Portland and, as a result, was required to buy the textbook. But, I ended up using another auditing textbook in order to get an "A" from this class. The format and writing style are very difficult to follow and understand. ... Read more

Dry Reading
Like most books about quality control and quality assurance, this one is a sleeper, too. What is even more interesting is that an author could write a 300-page book about this subject! Dry as it is - and that may be no fault of the author - the book has some valuable ideas about auditing.
