5-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of how systems work
I was looking for a book that described in depth how the various cycles (e.g., Revenue Cycle) worked in conjunction with the various tables.Does an outstanding job with in-depth details where you not only learn the steps, but how the system is updated at each stage. Good material on controls, especially application controls that need to be built into the system.Normally I never look at case studies and assignments, but in this book, they were useful. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Filled With Useless Information
If you want to wade through useless babble to get to the actual cost accounting, go at it. However, you'll probably buy this book anyway if you have an unscrupulous accounting professor who received a gift basket from the publisher.
3-0 out of 5 stars FOR THE PRICE, THIS BOOK SHOULD BE BETTER
This book should have been written better when you consider its expensive price tag. However, the review excercise at the end of the chapter is extremely helpful. I would recommend the book if serious improvements are made. Overall, it is not that bad.

1-0 out of 5 stars Want to Cheat Someone
I made a mistake and chose the book they listed in the Amazon.com. When the book arrived, I saw that what they have listed was only a Study Guide from a really old edition. I must say that they have said this on the listing. That was my mistake. But I wrote them back that I do not want this book, and want to return it. But they do not accept the return and refund of money. They do know that it is hard to find someone again doing this mistake. I looked at the book. This is $ 10 worth, not more. And impossible to sell again. I am a student. I do not have so much money to afford the required book. So I got really frustrated and faced losts of problems in the following weeks and spent a lot of time and energy to get the right book. It is a really sad story and an experience for me. I hope the seller is right know enjoying my $ 139.71. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for non-specialists!!!
I think this book is very effective! Once you by pass all the gramatical errors, then you will be in driver's seat on this subject. A good book worth reading by anyone who is or plans to be a small business owner. I take my hat off to the author for making such a complicated subject easy to follow within the covers of such a small book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellet Resource
Although the price is steep for such a small book, and the book is full of grammatical errors, the information is invaluable. The book seems to have not been proof read prior to publishing. However, the author knows his subject and I have already used some of the information in the book on two business deals. One passage especially, on valuing (discounting) a minority partnership interest saved my organization several million dollars. They had planned to pay "pro rata" to buy a minority stake in a company.I was able to demonstrate why that was not a good idea because of the way the partnership was structured. They are now successfully negotiating at a discounted price.I highly recommend this book and agree with another review which states that you can find lengthier books on business valuation, but this one cuts right to the main points. In fact I bought three other books on valuation, one is over 1,000 pages but "Unlocking the Value of Your Business" is the book I find myself referencing everyday.Maybe that is why I could not find a used copy at a cheaper price, everyone holds on to their book!

5-0 out of 5 stars great book - reliable info
I have several books on this subject, and this one is probably my favorite.I've done many, many valuations and found that the more esoteric books on the topic don't seem to produce better results than the "tried and true" methods in this manual. There are also quite a few books, aimed at the layman, that oversimplify the subject - but there's no danger of that here. You will find this book both very accessible and technically complete.Highly, highly recommended. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A good book for the designer of energy risk managment tools
If you develop computer code in this field it could be a help, but if you are more interested in knowing more about the ways to avoid risk in the energy business I would recommend another book. There are also not enough practical examples to give a good understanding of the principles.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not for the average industry professional
The authors have written a very detailed, well structured text on the different models and developments in the power and fuel markets. It's a very complex, mathematical analysis of the different techniques being used, and the text may lose a number of readers in the overly rigorous formulations. For those involved in risk management, market modeling, or asset management, the book would be a good secondary or tertiary read after you've established a sound understanding of stochastic models and current hedging and pricing techniques in the marketplace. For the layman in the industry, the book will be far too heavy and not worth the read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good overview
The management of risk in the context of energy or weather is quite different than in other contexts, due to the peculiarities of the data that occurs in energy prices. The high volatility of energy prices can range, as the authors of this book point out, between 50-100% for gas, to 100-500% for electricity. No doubt this kind of volatility, and other properties such as correlations and mean reversion, entails that some different mathematical strategies for modeling energy derivatives be devised. The authors give a good tour of some of these strategies, and anyone interested in energy derivatives will gain a lot of insight into their modeling when reading this book. Due to space constraints, only chapters 5 and 7, which this reviewer considered the most important of the book, will be reviewed here. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good combination of math and finance
As indicated on the back of the book, the authors are aiming at audience who have some knowledge in both math and finance but may be weak in one and strong in another. Either way, this is a good book to read on credit risk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clear and comprehensive
This book clearly articulates basic concepts of credit risk modeling. At the same time it is mathematically rigorous. This book enables non mathematician with some (basic) knowledge in probability statistic to better understand and develop his risk management skills.

3-0 out of 5 stars A mostly complete bridge across a chasm
In future editions it'd be helpful to have a stronger discussion of imperfect markets. Hubbard's neo-classicism is what made G W Bush pick him to lead the Council of Economic Advisors. But to get a more full picture of finance (especially on the international scale) one should read this side by side with Stiglitz's "Globalization and its Discontents".
2-0 out of 5 stars nah don't buy it

5-0 out of 5 stars Well written survey

I found this book to be perfect. It was neither too simplenor too complex.Everything was cogently written and accessible to alayman.I found answers to all my questions and it's organized in a mannerthat chapters can be read independently of one another. It will serve asan excellent reference manual. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Tad Crawford Does It Again
Tad Crawford has written a whole series of books out of his expertise in the law and creative arts, with a special focus on photography.I'd suggest looking at Tad's other books, too, since this one is more action-focused without extensive explanations of the whys and wherefores of it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Business and Legal Forms for Photographers
Appears to cover all the bases, including contracts, legal assistance, and many more forms than I ever imagined I might need. Very informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Resource
I didn't originally buy this book to "read".I bought it for the invaluable resources inside - the wealth of forms that any photographer needs to protect their work and their business. What makes this book so enticing is you don't have to photocopy, or redesign any of the forms since they're all included on a CD that comes with the book. That being said, I should mention that I was quite surprised at the thorough explanation for each form, and the situations where each form might be needed contained in the book.A person could undoubtedly pay hundreds (probably thousands) in legal fees assembling the information in this book on their own. This book is a photographer's "legal-resource-in-a-book".I highly recommend it. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Boring
Wow...This book was boring and confusing.I got it for my international finance class and it is just really hard to follow. It was a waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Step-by-step guide from the master
This book set me up very nicely for a career in forex markets. Possibly the gentlest introduction to international finance, the book does not waste any time with implementation of the ideas, instead provides you with the requisite knowledge, and illustrative examples. I had the fortune of being taught the subject by the author (Dr. Eun), and so the book was fully utilized. However, other teachers would also find the book an ideal companion to course notes. In fact, the book is so well written, it seems like a tutorial. You cannot go wrong if you are using it for international finance courses. The book will also help you with preparation for the CFA charter examinations.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent textbook on international finance
This book has three major strengths compared to other textbooks in this field. #1: It is soundly based on FINANCE theories. Most other textbooks on international finance have more of an "international BUSINESS" taste. #2: It is more analytical than most others. #3: It is comprehensive yet very concise. This is a must-read in the field of international finance. It is particularly suitable for senior-level finance undergraduate and MBA students as well as finance professionals with an interest in investments. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Vol. 2 is not as good as Vol. 1
I received the book recently.Compared with its Vol. 1, this book is not as good.I've just gone over Chapters 14 and 15.The examples are not as clearly presented as the ones in Vol. 1.I have to say this book is not up to my expectations, but the book, of course, can still help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have to accompany the textbook
The title, Survival Guide, is exactly as it means. This workbook, that accompanies `Intermediate Accounting' by Donald Kieso, is necessary to survive and understand intermediate accounting! The key is it gives you many more examples and probable situations to solve than the textbook could handle. I would not have done as well as I did in class without it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Problem-Solving Survival Guide: Int Act. Vol. 2 Ch 15-24
Completing the workbook items really helps reinforce concepts and offers great practice for tests. The book is not perfect. There's an occasional typo, and I wish there was more space to write in the workbook, and I was expecting it to cost a bit less, but in my opinion the book is very worthwhile to use. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough treatment of financial statement analysis
Stickney's book is not for beginners to the subject, as I believe many of those who have rated the book poorly have found. For those with some background in basic accounting however, it is indispensable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for FSA
I'm a rising second year MBA student at one of the prominent business schools. I used this book as one of the text books for FSA class after basic accounting and footnote accounting classes. This book is very useful in bringing the picture together to analyze and model a company. It is very practical. I have used it as a reference throughout my internship at an investment management firm.
4-0 out of 5 stars Don't judge this book by its cover! Not for beginners, but definitely for the future accounting professionals

4-0 out of 5 stars A guide to life in an ad agency
Luke Sullivan is a veteran copywriter who provides concrete advice on almost everything related to work in the advertising industry. Though much of the book revolves around his specialty, copywriting, Sullivan offers lots of practical advice on a range of topics like getting into advertising, the realities of working at an agency, developing TV and radio ads and dealing with clients.
5-0 out of 5 stars a creative writing students holy bible.
I'm a senior at FSU, and I read this in order to prepare myself for the creative side of advertising/ portfolio/grad school. It was on the recommended reading for more then one of the top ad schools. Originally, I found it thru the VCU website. I have to say, that as a creative writing student, I barely get any kind of advice on the advertising world. This book, was phenomenal for several reasons. First and foremost,I learned what I consider to be a great deal. Secondly, and most importantly, I laughed the entire time. Luke Sullivan is a fantastic writer, whom I feel lucky to have stumbled upon his book. I believe anyone can benefit from this easy read. It has helped give me a a great overview. On that note, I was wondering if there was a way to contact him? I'd love to pick his brain :).

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have to learn accounting, try this book.
I needed a crash-course in accounting prior to starting my MBA.This book gave me what I needed to know so that I wasn't completely clueless on my first day of class. It was also a valuable reference tool throughout school, and a great way to prepare for final exams.5-0 out of 5 stars Essentials of Accounting - My Review
Having recieved and MBA a few years ago. This workbook was very helpful as a refresher on the key concepts with some very interesting and compeling leads for further study. One should have a some prior knowledge of basic accounting concepts, if not some of the topics may be overwhelming. The workbook reviews topics which can be very helpful to individuals who may be considering P&L responsibilities. The workbook clearly and concisely explains the relationship between the essential financial statements. The book makes the field of Accounting more interesting than my previous opinions. I would definitely recommend this book considering the conditions mentioned.

This guide is an excellent teaching medium.Instead of reading page after page of text, the author engages the reader in answering questions and conducting drills to apply the material.Accounting is one of the subjects that you can learn more about each time you cycle through the material.I'd had an accounting course as part of my MBA program, and have read a couple of traditional accounting textbooks and this book really helped me understand how the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows are interrelated. This is a good book for busy professionals that don't have time to take an accounting course. I spent two hours on each chapter, for a total of 22 hours. The book is expensive, but worth it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It is what it is
The best attribute of this book is that it doesn't mislead the book buyer by presenting a big and juicy carrot on its title, only to fail the reader expectations throughout the book. In a nutshell, if you want to know what does mean covertible arbitrage, market neutral, distressed securities, merger arbitrage and so so, you'll get a detailed answer in there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I read a number of books in corporate finance and investments; thisbook is one of the best. It is more comprehensive than most other corporate finance books. It explains the concepts of finance in a rigorous, but very intuitive way. The explainations are much better than other books I have read. This book will definitely give the reader a solid background in the subject.
3-0 out of 5 stars Breadth, not depth
My take on this text is a little different. I used it in my undergrad intro to corporate finance class, but I didn't find the book too difficult. In fact, I found it too easy. The examples given are all extremely simple and the practice problems are too easy to be good practice for exams. My professor's lecture notes were a far better overview of corporate finance. I think the book is good for looking up a term you've never heard of before, but it skims over everything so you'll never really master the material.
