5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Nice Book
very nice overview on MnA. Good introduction and provides references for those who wanna dig into specific topics.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful reference book
Great reference book! I recently expanded my M&A library of books and among the 4-5 I bought, this one is clearly the one I most use at work. Highly recommended (unlike Arzac's technical read).

1-0 out of 5 stars Ludicrous
I didn't read the passage that the other reviewer did, who stated:"Did you know that if you start a business from your home, everything you currently own and use for the corporation (tables, computers, chairs, etc.) can be considered a donation to the corporation, resulting in a write off on your individual tax return? You can even write off your rent if you operate from there!"But assuming his citation of the book is accurate the book is flat wrong.A contribution by a shareholder to a corporation in a 26 USC 351 transaction is NOT A CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION and IS NOT DEDUCTIBLE by the contributing shareholder. Moreover, one cannot contribute assets to a corporation in exchange for stock, and then cause the corporation to make a 26 USC 179 election with respect to the contributed assets.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great source for managers
This is one of those few books that is simple yet not simplistic. Book is written for corporate managers whose job responsibility is outside the decipline of finance, however who can benefit from knowing the finance at the fundamental level. Book does not go into "mechanics" of finance and focuses more on the "essense" of finance. Written with the simplicity of small business yet with questions to be asked in large corporations. I would strongly recommend this book to all my managers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and on an understandable level.
Helpful to managers to give them insight into where accountants are projecting and where hard numbers are coming from. You are able to see sources of manipulation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strongly recommended to all business managers, both the novice and the experienced
Financial Intelligence: A Manager's Guide To Knowing What The Numbers Really Mean by Karen Berman and Joe Knight (owners of the Los Angeles-based Business Literacy institute) with management expert John Case is an innovative and "user friendly" instructional guide to proper and intelligible management of finances and business oriented decision making. Financial Intelligence is an impressive compendium of guidelines and information including the basics of financial measurement, reading income statements, balancing sheets, cash flow statements, separating hard data from the assumptions and estimates, the mechanics of analysis, calculating ratios, return on investment, working on capital, knowing the difference between cash and profit, financial literacy and transparency and how to recognize how the two can boost performance. Financial Intelligence is very strongly recommended to all business managers, both the novice and the experienced, as everyone has something to learn.

2-0 out of 5 stars Technical Analysis De-Mystified - Not
The other review on this date (wentraub) is not a book review but some random thoughts on investing. The Dynamic Asset Level Investing model is not even in the book but a paid service from Dorsey's website!!!!
4-0 out of 5 stars Technical Analysis De-Mystified
Technical analysts are becoming an endangered species on Wall Street. Major firms have long favored a fundamental approach emphasizing a nuts and bolts approach to company revenues, use of capital, and innovation. Scores of fundamental analysts closely follow individual sectors of the economy, scour SEC filings, and comment on daily developments pertaining to individual companies. Meanwhile a smaller cadre of 'technicians' churn out charts, graphs, and statistics that follow the ebb and flow of investor capital. Recently two well known full service brokerage firms decimated their already small contingent of technical analysts and another firm let go their star technician.
2-0 out of 5 stars Bait for online service
The book is too wordy - in fact the same information is more concisely presented and available for free at DWA website. To follow the method described you need to become a paying member of DWA. A free 2 week trail is also available at the site. This allows you to findout that to really understand and apply this method you need to take several of the $150 classes that DWA also provides. Also, the online service is really geared towards stock brokers (investment advisors).

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Place to Start
I've recently begun investing in stocks, but I knew nothing about financial reports or accounting. Now I do. Not only did I learn a lot from Ittelson, I want to know more!I liked this book because it was easy to get through (the writing is straightforward and the font is BIG), it utilizes a building-block method of learning, and employs a fictional company from page one to illustrate all the concepts of financial reports. If you're a beginner, this is a great place to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best!
A solid foundation is critical to understanding concepts. So you'd think most books would spend a lot of time ensuring and clarifying the basics, right? Wrong! Simply not true! Most of the accounting/finance books just don't get into clarifying the very basics - the confusing array of terms used, how they fit together, what they actually mean in a realworld setting, etc.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Choice for Beginners
Although the first half of the book seems naive even for begginers, second half reveals to be much better as author explains dinamics of connections among financial statements through a very interesting sequence of day-to-day operations of a simplified applesauce factory. In fact, even more experienced people would enjoy reading this part, as it is very clarifying. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars All about trading in the stock market
William O'neal covers all major stock trading areas in this book: how to find a broker, his CAN SLIM method for making money on stocks, When to sell, how to diversify, when to buy options, he shows charts of the biggest stock winners from 1953 to 1993, how to read stock price history charts and much more. It is a lot of information to take in and is not for beginners. I would advise reading "The neatest little guide to the stock market" before reading this book if you are just starting out in the land of individual stocks.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, but use your experience also
If anyone read How To Make Money In Stocks once or twice and made aconsistent profit over the last three years, my hat is off to them!
5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great introductory book
This is a very good introductory book for stock trading. Its concept of CAN-SLIM system provides an entry point for novice of how to do stock trading. Besides, it also points out many bad habits of major investors which should be avoided. Even for experienced investors, this book is good for review too. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good resource
I'm CEO of a medium size business and wanted a resource to teach me accounting. This is a great book, with plenty of assignments which fully reinforce the lessons. The only disappointment is that there are no solutions and the publisher only gives them to you if you are a registered teacher.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great transaction and product
The book arrived early and in great shape - US edition, hardcover, and no surprises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Used it in place of my assigned financial accounting book...
NYU's Stern School Of Business uses this book and its a well-crafted introduction to financial accounting. While taking accounting at the other New York business school, I deep sixed my assigned accounting book and instead borrowed my wife's. It coverage of topics and pedagogical flow are quite approachable and manageable. Struggling friends begain to purchase it for themselves. An excellent book. An interesting book as well. Case examples and references keep things interesting. Not just dry rules. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars "Slogging" Defined
OK folks, here's a contrarian review of this book.Consider it an opinion which "balances" other reviews presented in this book review section. Here goes.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very good book, but not for beginners
The book requires solid knowledge of accounting so not recommended for beginners. Do not expect long explanations and illustrations. They just give some basic examples and generally they don't provide journal entries. It is not an accounting book! Don't be scared if first time there are parts that are not clear as the chapters are interlinked. Give it another chance.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book
My accounting professor recommended this book ... found it to be very useful to get a handle on many accounting principles I was struggling with in my MBA course. What I like the best about the book is that it allows you to et as detailed as you want to get - it all depends on your interest. For instance I just wanted to get familiar with some issues like accounting for pension and it has very well explained the basics of pension accounting and on other hand where I wanted to get into details of handling of stock options it had all the details I was looking for. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This book sucks if you're learning for the first time.
This book is TERRIBLE.I am an engineer in an MBA program. The book is supposedly for non accountants, but I don't see how it's possible to understand this book if you're not an accountant. If you're unfortunate and have to use this book, find a good book that you can actually read to supplement the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book if you are not a moron
This is easily the best textbook I've ever read. It deftly explains extremely complicated financial theory in plain english. If other reviewers found it hard, it's because finance is hard--really hard. This book, however, is written to make it as simple as possible.

4-0 out of 5 stars Must Have for Business School Students
This is the main text used in most of the top undergraduate business programs in the US.Now in its 7th edition, Brealey and Myers still do a good job updating their already thick book to include new and relevant topics.I have read the 5th and 6th editions too, and they were fine books. The books are written for a general audience, and requires only a basic background in accounting. The rest of the material is pretty self-contained, but the treatment of some topics is quite shallow.I like the capital budgeting part of this book, as it provides a very good discussion on the subject matter.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly written book - will not recommend
This book is very difficult to understand even with a basic background in finance and economics. There is no structure, no clear definitions or definitions at all. I do not understand why the majority of instructors chose this text. There even are errors in the solutions for the practice questions. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Extremely useful for financial accounting
Financial accounting is a difficult subject but this book helps break down the concepts in a way that is easier to understand.

2-0 out of 5 stars not a good book for beginners
the whole structure of the book is ot comprehensible. it gives out 3 financial statements at the first 3 chapters, without letting the readers to have time digest the concepts. after you are confused enough, the book will then introduce concepts of each items listed in the statements, and have you look back at the first three chapters.
4-0 out of 5 stars What do you expect from an accounting book???
Having never taken an accounting class before, I didn't know what to expect. This was the text assigned for my first accounting class in an MBA program at an elite Northeastern Business School. It is a pretty straight-forward read. Let's face it, accounting is a subject full of jargon that you MUST learn. It is just one of those subjects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Develop Advanced Financial Modeling Skills
As a university teacher of strategic corporate finance and optimal investment, I have watched the financial industry analytics transcend hand calculation with financial calculators to financial modeling with spreadsheet software. Depending on whether the financial specialty is in corporate or banking/brokerage, the job skills requirement can range from corporate cost control to optimal portfolio design. Thus, modeling skills services both company research and financial planning.

I have been an auditor for the last seven years and I can assure you that Prof. Arens book is excellent. Even if you have a working experience with audits you will find that this book is not the usual "text book"

No textbook is really worth 5 stars, in my estimation, because that is reserved for books that actually entertain me!Textbooks seldom do that. However, this auditing text is pretty darn good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, Someone Knows How to Explain Chemistry!
I thought my brain was broken because I tried several times to understand Chemistry. The problem was the other textbooks required by my professors. When I came across Chang's book, I thought it would be written like the rest of the boring chemistry texts written for people starting out in chemistry (but seemed like they were for people with a Ph.D. in chemistry). After I started to read Chang's book I was surprised, but I doubted myself.I assumed that I would get concepts mixed up or that I did not understand them at all.I was wrong because I passed every test in my Chemistry class.I am so happy to have found this book.I recommend this book to every college student that is somewhat familar with chemistry. This book helped me pass! Now, it would be great if he wrote organic chemistry and biochemistry books also.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
Chemistry is the black science; it came to humanity borne upon the river Hades. In other words, I am an unrepentant chemistry hater. That being said, I nevertheless require a good grade in the subject in order to advance to the next stage of my studies in a field completely unrelated to chemistry (sound familiar my friends? and isn't it time we did something about it?). This text is bottomlessly horrible, plain and simple; its educational value dissipates as quickly as a stream of intestinal gas directed against the wind. There were times during which I fell down on both knees and begged God for deliverance (prior to chemistry, I was an agnostic) from the burden of another day in chemistry class with this hated tome around my neck like a millstone. In short: I've seen a wealth of better textbooks on the market since my sad days in chem 120, and I would encourage you to search for them.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must read for any True American!
Why is America's economy in a never ending downward spiral? Why do most Americans think they get back money from taxes, and never think how much they already have paid? This book is a great eye-opener to what is really going on in America's tax system and what needs to be done to fix it.This book is not just about what needs to be fixed, but also what is being done right now, that most Americans are unaware of.For example, did you know that about half of the American popular pays one hundred percent of all income taxes. And did you know that corporations do not pay corporate taxes, we do!

2-0 out of 5 stars Easy Read
I'm generally NOT a book reader, but managed to read The FairTax book in just over one day, while on the road with the family.I'd already heard a great deal about the FairTax from listening to talk radio, but I was really hooked from just the first ten-page (or so) chapter.I find it hard to believe that anyone could learn about the history of the income tax system, and the 16th Ammendment, without beginning to boil. How could we have been so short-sighted to allow this to happen?
5-0 out of 5 stars The Fair Tax: The Country needs this badly!
Please read this book,it will open your eyes. The Fair Tax is the way to go,the mere fact that the IRS code needs over sixty thousand pages should tell you that there is alot of legal graft and corruption built into the system. The Fair Tax would eliminate this.Do yourself a favor and buy this book, read it and then take action.

1-0 out of 5 stars Subjective and unconvincing
I purchased this book many years ago when i was market uneducated and market naive and believed that I was missing something as I could never make the connections the author has made throughout his book. After years of studying the markets and attempting to trade profitably, I have revisited this book once again and am just as annoyed with the conclusions the author has made. I am confidant that my work resolves the wave like behavior that defines price movement more precisely than the author. Perhaps it was the clean slate with which I began my research. From what I can gather, people were attracted to the wave analysis because of the author but unfortunately his thesis has proven to be ineffective for traders. As a member of the technician's society I have hoped to introduce my ideas regarding this subject to the author and convince him my approach is more applicable than his. I am embarrassed to announce that this is not even my full time job as real estate consumes much of my time and trading is merely a hobby. Just think if I were able to devote full time. Regardless this book fails just as it did the first read many years ago.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and cool, but impractical to apply
I read this book after becoming very interested in Robert Prechter's doctrine from an interview he did in a magazine. He has a different way of discussing wave theory, one that concentrates on the whys of crowd psychology. It's absolutely fascinating stuff and well worth reading.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Guide
Before I took a serious look at Elliot Wave technical analysis, I was of the (common I believe) opinion that it didn't work, wasn't specific enough, and was a couple of steps down from Voodoo in my list of `sound trading methods to think about using'.All that changed when I took a serious look at Elliott Wave International and specifically the book Elliott Wave Principle (EWP) by Frost and Prechter.
