The Book to Get
I've just acquired several rental properties and needed a book that had tax information all in one place. I got a couple other books, but this one is the one that I use all the time. It's easy to read and understand while still explaining the nuances of tax law, and has good strategy and planning ideas for repairs/improvements etc. It also addresses what is and is not deductible as you are starting out (i.e. before you actually buy a property).
A must read!
This is a great book.It has the info, is easy to read and understand.I plan on reviewing this every year.Even if you have someone else do your taxes, it helps you in making business decisions with respect to taxes for your property.

Shopper Satisfaction
Actually, the supplier no longer had the book available.But the supplier contacted me immediately and my account was credited almost as quickly as the money went out.So I am still a happy shopper.

Poorest text ever written
If your school uses this book, not only don't take this class, drop out of the school. If I could rate this with negative numbers I would. This is the worst textbook ever devised by man OR woman. If you are already a CPA looking for a review, it might be worth something, otherwise it teaches nothing. It presents examples without first explaining things then explains things using examples that have no bearing on what is being taught.

Learned alot
I think that it is a good book for people who are just getting into real estate investing.It gives you information on many creative things that can be done.I learned alot and plan to use some of the suggestions and tools soon.

Plug for other products - all fluff
The authors of this book touch on many subjects, giving very little detail in any of them.The legal and accounting loopholes are very basic - and they keep referring you to other products and sites they've written/published - making this book one big commercial.In one area, when talking about the benefits of real estate investment, the fail to even mention costs associated with using equity, cash flow, repairs, etc.I am a new entrant to real estate investing, and would not recommend this book to anyone.It is no different than the get rich quick schemes you see on tv/internet.

Good for starters so you can talk the talk with your lawyer
The concepts in the RichDad series book Rich Dad, Poor Dad are basic concepts.It was a book to introduce the reader that working hard your whole life is not the way to create real wealth.In Real Estate Loopholes, the concepts for investing in real estate are pretty much the same amount of detail as in RDPD.It's a short read intended to give the reader some surface level knowledge of real estate tax advantage and legal issues to avoid by setting up LPs and LLPs.By reading this book, I'm able to ask more intelligent questions for my real estate attorney.Read more

Perfect for studying
This book was a great help in studying for exams.The problems are good (and there are plenty) and the answers are immediately available with detailed explanations.I highly recommend this workbook.

Intermediate Accounting
I was struggling (what I call struggling) in the class until I bought this book along with Volume II. I found that it helped me immensely. Though my instructor is good, she goes through things a lot faster than I was able to take notes for. This book was definately beneficial for keeping my GPA!!!

A truly paradigm-shifting work
Ron Baker is doing for the professional services firms what Columbus and Pythagoras did for the "Earth is Flat" proponents!"Paradigm-shifting" has become so over-used in our culture, but it is not mere hyperbole when describing this book.The work is quite thorough, implementing excerpts, quotes, and philosophies from dozens of well-respected scholars, economists, and management consultants.The work reminds me a lot of Tom Peters' seminal book, "In Search of Excellence" in the way in which the author sprinkles in so many great examples from other successful organizations and industries.In addition, he has many real-world examples (from firms around the world) of professional services firms that have successfully tranformed their practices.I whole-heartedly recommend this book to any professional who is trying to transform a professional services organization or who is wondering if there might be a more effective and profitable way to run a professional services firm.

Extremely helpful, well documented.
This is a very well-documented guide for any service firm. It's also very well written, very insightful and very well researched. It's real deep, complete and full of advice and wisdom from several great minds. Great for building your plan
I bought this book, and then purchased the Electronic Worksheets from the publisher!They are great together, and both really helped get the plan started and crunch those vital startup numbers.The book is very well written and easy to follow!

The Best Auditing Book Available
During the 16 years that I have taught Financial Auditing at the university level I have been constantly on the lookout for the best available book. I chose Whittington & Pany because (1) it is succinct, (2) it presents auditing concepts clearly (although the authors do sugar coat the accounting scandals of the past 20 years and fail to give credit where credit is due by naming the firms involved in them), (3) the page layout is attractive and easy to read, and most importantly (4) my students preferred it over other texts (one student told me that she chose my class after looking through the assigned texts for all of the Auditing sections, an excellent idea).
Whittington and Pany ROCK!!!!!
Let me tell ya! What do you get when you combine Whittington, Pany, and Auditing? It's just a boatload of accounting fun!!!These guys know how to put together a book on auditing. This thing is a real page turner. Damn! Attestation really rocks but Assurance Services will just blow your mind. Not the package deal the publisher leds you to believe
My criticism is not against the book per sec but it is most definitely toward the manner in which it is sold.The book comes as a package with extras that turn out to be nothing more than a free CPA study guide last updated 9 Aug 03 (almost a year ago and you have to mail in a card that gets answered 6 weeks later by email with a link to down load) which makes it out of date with its competitors for the new computerized exam.Then there is the Power Web website that you can go to with the password in the book.Except for the PowerPoint slides and Excel spreadsheets for some homework I found the site useless.McGraw-Hill would be better selling this book by itself (which when I called them it is no longer available by itself) with out the extras that are not worth the cost or updating its "guide" and including it along with the PowerPoint slides, Excel spreadsheets, and Word check figures on a CD IN the book when you buy it.This whole thing is nothing more than gouging already cash strapped students.McGraw-Hill should be ashamed.If you must buy the book as a student get a used copy without the junk; if you are a college bookstore please do your students/customers a monetary kindness and sell the book at the lower "by itself" price. ... This book is great.Use the online resources!My professor is old school and made no mention of those resources.Had I not taken the time to figure them out and make use of them, I may not have passed the class.The narrated PowerPoint's were particularly helpful.

The easiest way to learn about SOX
The author has somehow found a way to make this incredibly arcane subject interesting and easy to digest.This book, unlike every other SOX book I have seen, is filled with practice tips, checklists and witty commentary and is written in a way that makes the statute and the SEC's rules easy to understand for lawyers and non-lawyers alike. It also provides other key sources of SOX information and is a pleasure to read.She should consider changing the title to "Sarbanes-Oxley for Lawyers, Executives and other Dummies who Don't Have the Time or Patience to Wade Through the Other Dry and Boring Books on the Subject".I highly recommend this book to lawyers and non-lawyers alike.

Sarbanes-Oxley (usually called SOX) was a congressional response to a bunch of big time business failures such as Enron. The law was rather rushed through to wide bi-partisan support.
